LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — New scholars at the Family Scholar House will be welcomed to the community with prepared "Welcome Home" baskets.

On Thursday morning, volunteers from Duke Energy assembled the baskets for the 36 new scholars and their families who will be move into the Ivy Tech Sellersburg campus.

The baskets will include everything from children's activities to cleaning supplies and kitchen basics. There will also be handwritten notes included in each basket.

Scholars will receive the baskets as soon as they arrive to the home.

"When those families walk into that house and see their new place, they can feel like home and start that new journey, that exciting educational journey, with support here from Family Scholar House, so we're excited," said Lisa Huber, government and community relations manager for Duke Energy.

A $10,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation helped support the welcome baskets.

"We appreciate the Duke Energy Foundation support that will help scholars overcome obstacles and stay on track toward pursuing a degree and graduation," said Deja B. Jackson, director of Community Engagement for Family Scholar House, in a news release. "Our wraparound services have shown strong results in our graduation rates and contribute to the overall health, mental wellness and well-being of the entire family."
