LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person was killed after being ejected from a car during a crash near Pleasure Ridge Park early on New Year's Day.

Louisville Metro Police spokesman Aaron Ellis said officers responded around 1:30 a.m. Monday to the intersection of Greenbelt Highway and Riverport Drive. Their initial investigation found a car was "traveling at a high rate of speed" northbound on the Greenbelt Highway when the driver lost control, veering off the road at Riverport Drive.

Ellis said the car went down an embankment, causing the passenger to be ejected. He or she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female driver of the car was transported to UofL Hospital with what police believe are non-life-threatening injuries.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
