LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some southern Indiana teachers and counselors are getting a boost to help students and staff with mental health.

Tuesday, the New Albany Floyd County Education Foundation announced the recipients of its inaugural Mental Health Grants "aimed at fostering the well-being of students and educators" across the school district.

The foundation said $47,000 is going to 18 projects within the New Albany Floyd County Schools district.

The projects cover different schools and different grade levels, and take a creative and innovative approach to addressing mental health concerns.

One project includes a teddy bear clinic to promote self value and compassion in schools. Another is using pickleball to help students with mental fatigue and seasonal depression.

Below is a list of schools where projects are being funded. Some schools are getting funding for more than one project.

  • Hazelwood Middle School
  • New Albany High School
  • Highland Hills Middle School
  • Georgetown Elementary
  • Prosser Career Education Center
  • S. Ellen Jones Elementary
  • Green Valley Elementary
  • Slate Run Elementary

The NAFC Education Foundation said its Board of Directors reviews and selects outstanding projects to fund that demonstrate "a commitment to enhancing mental health support within NAFC schools."
