LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The family of a Jennings County fifth grader who died by suicide is suing the Jennings County School Corporation and several school leaders, alleging the child was subjected to severe bullying.

The lawsuit claims the girl endured repeated harassment from classmates, including verbal abuse and sexual misconduct.

According to the complaint, school officials were notified of the alleged behavior multiple times, but failed to take steps to stop it.

The family contends the district’s response was insufficient and contributed to their daughter’s death.

In a statement, the school corporation said it is aware of the lawsuit and denies the allegations. Officials declined to comment further, citing ongoing litigation.

The case is pending.
