LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) middle school is celebrating its indoor track state championship.

Grace James Academy, located in Louisville's Russell neighborhood, was recognized Wednesday by Mayor Craig Greenberg for the win.

"We don't have all the resources that a lot of these other teams have, so I was very grateful, and I was proud of my whole team that they were able to be resilient," team member Eliana Burton said.

The team placed first in the state at the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association's Indoor State Championship last month.

Head coach Frank Mondell said the girls make no excuses as the school does not have a track or field for the team to practice on. The team often practices in hallways, libraries, and anywhere else they can find.
