LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More than 40 students from Jefferson County Public Schools are attending a summer camp for deaf and hard of hearing children.

The camp gives the students a chance to socialize with other children like them. JCPS officials said many of the children are the only deaf or hard of hearing students in their schools.

The theme of the camp is animal adaption. It's the last week of the four-week camp.

"Today they're working on voluminous," said Christina Delk, JCPS Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program supervisor. "It's different ways that animals adapt to their environment as they may adapt to their environment with whatever devices they may wear so it's a tie into that and advocacy."

Teachers and interpreters provide learning opportunities for students based around vocational, audiology and communication skills. The camp is held at Bloom Elementary in the Tyler Park neighborhood.
