LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jefferson Community and Technical College opened a new restaurant for students by students.
"The Underground Café" is part of JCTC's downtown Louisville campus. It reopened this week for the first time since the pandemic. But this time around, the restaurant is completely student-run.
They make the menu, order ingredients, as well as prep and cook the food. The idea is to give culinary students experience in running a restaurant.
"It gives us first-hand experience on how to manage, operate, run, set up a kitchen," Demetra Williams, a student worker at the café, said. "You know, dealing with the money, dealing with the customers. It's hands-on."
The students who work at the café earn class credit and get paid through a work study program.
