LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A daycare in the Park Hill neighborhood reopened on Monday.
Keystone Learning Academy prepares kids for kindergarten on South 13th Street near Algonquin Parkway. Sharon Hemingway, executive director of Keystone Learning, said the day care closed after a flood last December. A frozen pipe burst and damaged the building.
Mayor Craig Greenberg added a line item to his budget for $500,000 for Keystone Academy to purchase the building, which was approved by Louisville Metro Council.
"It is in an at-risk community and so it's our job to prepare the kids for school to make them school ready and that is what we do at Keystone Learning Academy," said Hemingway. "And being part of the Greater Louisville Head Start, our focus is on kindergarten readiness."
50 children are enrolled, but it needs 30 more children to reach its licensed capacity. Keystone Learning Academy was formerly known as California Area Family Development Center.
