LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Metro Police Department's drone unit helped arrest a shooting suspect hiding out in some bushes last month.
Jayden Ross, 21, was arrested in connection with a shooting near 24th and West Market streets just after 12 a.m. on Jan. 22. That's on the border of the Portland and Russell neighborhoods.
During the investigation into the shooting, officers saw Ross in a car with the back window shot out take off from the area, according to court documents. Police said he ran a stop sign and pulled in front of an officer, who attempted a traffic stop.Â
Ross took off, running several red lights in the process. Police said he crashed into another vehicle at 15th and Market before hitting a tree and running off on foot.Â
As officers searched the area, a drone from the LMPD drone unit joined the effort and, using infrared imaging, found Ross hiding in some bushes at 13th and Jefferson. SWAT and a K-9 officer closed in and arrested him.
While he was being arrested, officers found a large bag of marijuana in a bag he had on him.
Ross faces multiple charges, including fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, driving without an operator's license and leaving the scene of an accident, but not with the actual shooting itself as police continue investigating.
According to court documents, Ross faces additional charges of promoting contraband, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence after police found "multiple pills in the side of his underwear lining" while he was being processed at Louisville's jail.
A not guilty plea was entered for Ross during his Jan. 23 arraignment, where his bond was set at $50,000 cash. The case was waived to a grand jury in court on Tuesday.
