LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Sheriff's deputies in southern Indiana found three people dead in a home Wednesday in a murder-suicide.
According to the Harrison County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to a home on Greenbrier Road SE in Elizabeth, Indiana, just before 7:30 p.m. for a welfare check on a suicidal male at the request of his brother.
Once on scene, police found Brett Dixon, 36, dead on the front porch from two gunshot wounds. Inside the home, police found 59-year-old Melissa Cochran Dixon dead from a gunshot wound, and 61-year-old Paul Dixon dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Based on evidence at the scene, police said Paul Dixon was responsible for shooting Melissa Cochran Dixon and Brett Dixon, and there is no threat to the public.
"This incident is a tragic loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family, extended family, and friends of those involved," Sheriff Nick Smith said in a news release.
Autopsies for all three people have been scheduled as the investigation continues, the sheriff's office said. Police didn't disclose their relationship to each other.
