LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Ivy Tech leaders broke ground Thursday morning on two big projects at the Sellersburg campus.
The event kick-started construction on the new Sellersburg Scholar House. The facility run by Family Scholar House, will serve as housing for disadvantaged single parents and their children.
Family Scholar House works to end the cycle of poverty by supporting parents while they get an education and to further their careers.
"What we are building here is more than affordable housing," Cathe Dykstra, with Family Scholar House, said. "We are building brighter futures for single mothers and their children and prosperity for generations to come."
Ivy Tech is also building a new entrance to the campus to connect the college to the Scholar House and the Indiana State Police post nearby.
Both projects were supported by a variety of grants and donations from community partners.
