LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Money taken from drug busts in one Kentucky county is being used to get new tools to help protect students and staff in an emergency.
On Tuesday, Shelby County Public Schools received ballistic emergency response shields from the Shelbyville Police Department.
The shields protect against assault rifles, shotguns, handguns and blades.
In the event of an emergency, they can be used by administrators, teachers, and students for protection before law enforcement arrives.
The police department said the district is the first in the state to receive the shields, which will go to several local schools.
