LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some Jeffersonville High School students are now in the popcorn business.Â
Applied Career Classes, partnered with Poppin Flavors Gourmet Popcorn, to launch a student-run business program.
The students get hands-on experience in packaging, inventory management, sales and marketing. Many of the students have disabilities.Â
The unique brand, JHS Poptastic Popcorn, will be sold exclusively within the school with a logo designed by a student.
"It introduces my students to the fact that sometime in order to have a job, you have to make your job," JHS teacher Donna Vanhook said. "That if you have an idea of something you could get paid for or something that you might be able to make and sell, that you can do that. Sometimes, it's not your typical job that you go out and work 9-to-5 somewhere."
Popcorn sales will pay for classroom supplies, field trips and other educational activities. The project was paid for through a grant from the Greater Clark Education Foundation.
