LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Jefferson County Public Schools students will head back to classrooms this week.
JCPS officials want to make sure families are prepared for the first day. This includes checking the "First Day" tab on JCPS' website, which provides needed information, including a child's bus stop.
Parents also need to download the My Ride K-12 app to receive bus reminders and track their child's bus.
Parents can call 485-RIDE with transportation-related questions. And bus stops and routes have officially been posted on Bus Teller. There, parents can easily view their child's bus number, bus stop location and estimated pick-up and drop-off times.
JCPS Superintendent Brian Yearwood said the district has around 170 teacher vacancies this year, significantly fewer than last year.
"This year we are focusing on making sure that we're addressing the needs of our schools," he said. "We have reorganized to provide that support and we want to ensure again that schools feel supported and they have what they need because a successful school means a successful child, successful teachers."
Chief Operations Officer Rob Fulk said the district has more than 700 bus drivers this year and have moved to a new routing system.
He added those drivers have been practicing routes, and the times are looking promising ahead of the first day.
The security team is fully staffed for JCPS this year. This means every middle and high school will be assigned its own school resource officer.
