HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) -- Ellis Park owner Ron Geary says the western Kentucky racetrack is ready to begin offering casino-style instant racing.
Geary told The Gleaner that the parlor with 187 machines will open on Friday morning, just in time for Labor Day. He says employees at the track have been "working day and night for a month" to finish remodeling part of the clubhouse and install the machines. He said the plan is to run the machines from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week.
Instant Racing machines resemble slot machines and allow gamblers to place wagers on previously run but unidentified horse races.
Ellis Park will be second track in Kentucky to try the venture. Kentucky Downs in Franklin began offering instant racing last year.
