LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Top Democrats will not be attending this weekend's Fancy Farm.

Governor Beshear will miss the premier political event because he's out of the country on an economic development trip.

Other Democratic leaders have other excuses including birthday and anniversary parties.

That will leave no one to defend against Republican criticism of President Obama's policies.

The annual picnic has drawn politicians from across the state for more than 130 years to unofficially kick off the general election season.
