LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police Department's 5th Division officers will compete for gift certificates and free meals in a Fitbit challenge.
Louisville Metro Councilmembers Ben Reno-Weber, D-8th District, Andrew Owen, D-9th District and Pat Mulvihill, D-10th District, are all sponsoring the challenge.
“This challenge provides some fun incentives for officers to be out of their vehicles and walking the streets during their shifts, Councilman Reno-Weber said. "When officers are walking the streets and interacting with community members, everyone wins."
Twenty Fitbit devices have been given to the 5th Division. Officers will wear the devices throughout their shifts, and at the end of the week, the officer with the most steps wins. Officers will walk routes in the 5th Division on Bardstown Road, Frankfort Avenue and parts of Brownsboro Road.
“LMPD’s 5th Division is excited to take part in this opportunity," LMPD 5th Division Major Grissom said. "To my knowledge this is first time LMPD has engaged in this type of activity so it should be an exciting challenge. I feel this is a great time to get out there and engage the community in a unique way. Hopefully, we develop some positive relationships with our neighbors and wear some holes in our boots."
Restaurants in the 5th Division are urged to donate a meal or gift certificate for the challenge, and to donate, contact Councilman's Reno-Weber's at 502-574-1108.Â
