LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former employee of CSX Corp. is accused of using a company credit card to steal gas -- then selling the gas to customers at local gas stations.
According to an arrest report, a special agent of the CSX Railroad Police was notified that someone was stealing funds from CSX by misusing a credit card -- and it was happening on a regular basis.
On Thursday morning, that agent allegedly watched 34-year-old Jason Purcell drive onto CSX property, get out of his car and take a company credit card out of a CSX dump truck.
When the special agent approached him, Purcell allegedly threw the gas card under another CSX truck.
Police say Purcell later confessed to using the car to steal gas on multiple occasions, then selling the gas to various people at Thornton's, Circle K and Speedway. He is a former CSX employee who has been ordered to stay away from company property, according to the arrest report.
While in custody, Purcell allegedly took off his handcuffs, picked up his wallet and car keys and tried to run away.
Instead, he was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking, fraudulent use of a credit card, attempted escape and trespassing, according to the arrest report.
