LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Former Louisville Metro Councilman Glen Stuckel has died at the age of 90.
The Louisville Metro Council Minority Caucus made the announcement Saturday evening, thanking Glen's family for allowing him to serve the city.
"Glen believed in service to others from his time serving our country in the military, to his countless hours of volunteering as a member of the Kosair Shrine Temple to his work as a representative on the Louisville Metro Council," Metro Council Minority Caucus said.
Stuckel served as an inaugural member of the Louisville Metro Council, taking office in January 2003 and serving the residents of District 17 in eastern Jefferson County until 2019.
Stuckel was an advocate for parks, libraries and improving the community's infrastructure.
"Glen worked to improve our parks bringing millions in improvements to District 17 parks and was a key figure in the location and construction of Louisville’s most used library, the Northeast Regional Library," the Minority Caucus said.
In addition to a councilman, Stuckel was a national building industry leader and a Kosair Shriner.
Some councilmembers have issued statements on Stuckel's death.
Councilman Kevin Kramer, D-11, said: “Glen was a wonderful man who lived a life in service of others. Glen was serious about helping others, but never afraid to have a little fun, even when making light of himself. He was our point person for matters such as infrastructure and housing, but also a leader in helping to bring people together to focus on the things in life that really matter. We will all miss Glen and hope that our future service will keep him and his many lessons in mind. Our thoughts and prayers are with Glen’s Family today.”
Metro Councilman Stuart Benson, D-20, said: “Glen was a great man, a friend to all, and never afraid to start a conversation. He knew how to serve others and believed that actions and results were more important than words. Glen was a man of faith and conviction, and I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with him for so many years."
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025 with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon. A memorial service will follow at noon at Hurstbourne Christian Church, 601 Nottingham Parkway.
