LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Fort Knox closed a road on post as it investigated an unexploded grenade.

In a news release Tuesday morning, Fort Knox said South Knox Street was closed near Spearhead Division Avenue, after a "decades-old hand grenade" was found in the area.

Buildings and businesses in the area include Abound Credit Union, Transition Assistance Program, Directorate of Human Resources and the Army Substance Abuse Program. The release said all were determined to be a safe distance away. Traffic was diverted to Dixie Street or Pershing Drive.

Just after 2 p.m., Fort Knox officials said a "military Explosive Ordnance team successfully destroyed the hang grenade about 1:40 p.m."

An all clear was given and all streets reopened.
