LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Firefighters responded to a garage fire Okolona on Thursday morning but their run turned into a death investigation.

According to MetroSafe, the fire was reported about 9:30 a.m. in Lynnview, on Bluebird Avenue. That's in a neighborhood just off Preston Highway and Gilmore Lane.

Okolona Fire Major Jason Tobbe told WDRB that fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke from the garage. They quickly extinguished the fire in a workshop inside the garage.

Unrelated to the fire, they discovered that a woman had died inside the house. Louisville Metro Police were called and are conducting a death investigation.

A second person was taken to the hospital from the scene for an issue that Tobbe said was unrelated to the fire.

Both Fern Creek and Okolona Fire units responded.
