LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Traffic on State Road 60 in southern Indiana is being diverted due to a gas leak.
In a Facebook post Thursday around 6 p.m., Clark County Sheriff Scottie Maples asked residents to avoid the area of State Road 60 and Yorktown Boulevard in Sellersburg, Indiana, due to a gas leak.
Traffic was being diverted, and a subdivision was blocked by emergency crews.Â
In an update at 10:21 p.m., Tri-Township Fire said one lane is open on State Road 60, and the entrance to the subdivision is open with limited access.
The Clark County Sheriff's Office said crews from CenterPoint have been dispatched to the area, and expects delays to last for a few hours, depending on the gas company's response.
A Clark County utility contractor told WDRB News Lumos, a fiber optic contractor, was in the area and caused the leak.Â
This summer, Lumos was responsible for several utility line hits in southern Indiana and Kentucky, and mounting complaints from residence about yards being left a mess and unsafe practices. Floyd County went so far as to suspend work permits twice this summer for the company.
CenterPoint said in a statement to WDRB Thursday night, gas service has been shut off to about 200 customers in the area, and repairs are expected to be finished overnight. CenterPoint said technicians will visit customers Friday morning to perform safety checks and re-establish service, so someone 18 years of older needs to there so crews can enter the home or business. If no one is home, the technician will leave information on how to contact the company to schedule a relight.
WDRB has reached out to Lumos for comment, but have not heard back yet.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
