LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A popular fall festival in Louisville hosted thousands of people over the past two days.

The German American Club hosted its annual Oktoberfest in the Poplar Level neighborhood on Friday and Saturday. Event organizers expected around 10,000 people over the two-day event.

On Saturday, the festival featured a parade, German music, lots of food and plenty of beer.

"Great food, good beer, it's hard to beat," said Kaleb Hampton, who attended the festival for the first time.

The German American Club expected to go through around 200 kegs of beer, along with hundreds of pounds of schnitzel and potatoes.

"We're a volunteer-run organization, this is our biggest fundraiser of the year," said Ashlyn Ackerman. "We're really focused on Germanic heritage in Louisville. That's what brings everybody here."

Attendees who didn't show up in German-inspired outfits could easily fit into the spirit of Oktoberfest. Ackerman made flower head bands for festivalgoers.

"It's a fun way if you don't have a German outfit on, you can feel like you have some German flair on," Ackerman said. "It's a fun way to dress up a little bit."

The German American Club has more than 700 members. Volunteers collaborate to put on the event each year.

"A lot of effort goes into these two days," said Alex Hoffmann.
