LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Human remains found in a field behind a home in Brandenburg have been identified.
The Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office said the remains of Cheryl Smalarz were found on Old State Road in the afternoon of May 10.
According to the Brandenburg Police Department, a resident had reported finding human remains in a field behind their home.
Responding officers confirmed the remains were human skeletal remains and requested the Meade County coroner to respond. The remains were collected and taken to the medical examiner's office in Louisville.
Smalarz lived in Brandenburg and was the subject of a missing persons case. Dental records helped identify her.
Investigators are still trying to figure out how she died, but said there are no signs of trauma or foul play.
