LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One of the area’s few remaining Catholic churches will close its doors at the end of the year.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish will shut down after years of declining membership. Leaders said the number of active parishioners has dropped sharply, making it difficult to sustain.

They also report the church building has fallen into significant disrepair. With the closure, the parish’s territory will shift to St. Martin de Porres in the Parkland neighborhood.

Church leaders are encouraging parishioners to transition to St. Martin de Porres, where they hope to keep serving the community.
