LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two people in Indiana have died from the flu.

Indiana health officials said they are the first flu-related deaths this flu season.

More than 200 Hoosiers died last flu season from the illness. Health officials are telling everyone to get an annual flu shot.

"Influenza can quickly become a serious, even life-threatening illness for some Hoosiers," said State Health Commissioner Lindsay Weaver, M.D., FACEP, in a news release. "While no two flu seasons are exactly alike, we always recommend getting an annual flu shot as soon as possible to provide the best protection against becoming seriously ill."

The CDC said people can help stop the spread of the flu with the 3 c's: Clean, Cover and Contain. Wash you hands with warm soapy water. Cover your cough and sneeze. Stay home from activities if you're sick.

Signs of the flu include a cough, sore throat, headache, runny or stuffy nose and fever higher than 100 degrees.
