LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Federal funding is headed to Indiana to help reduce energy use and costs.
The $182 million in funding will be rolled out through two programs once the state's plan is approved by the U.S. Department of Energy later this year, according to a report from FOX59.
The first program is the Home Efficiency Rebate program. Indiana residents would receive discounts for new insulation, air sealing and duct work. Households must prove the new insulation would achieve at least 20% in energy savings.
The second program is the Home Appliance Rebate Program, providing discounts for items like new HVACs, heat pumps and water heaters.
Officials said the HEAR program would be exclusively for low- and moderate-income households.
"The whole idea is that customers are not going to have to pay out of pocket for the full costs of whatever investments are made under these programs,” Ryan Hadley, with the Indiana Office of Energy Development said.
Informational meetings for both programs will take place within the next two weeks in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville.
The programs are expected to launch in late 2024 or early 2025, and officials said the funding could help Hoosiers for the next three to four years.
