LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Indianapolis woman was killed in a crash just near Sellersburg in southern Indiana Monday evening.

State police said the two-vehicle crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. on Interstate 65 North, just past the exit to Sellersburg, Sgt. Carey Huls said in a news release.

Once on scene, responding agencies found the passenger of one of the vehicles had been ejected during the crash.

Investigators believe a Ford pickup was headed north in the center lane when the driver tried merging into the far-left lane.

Police said the pickup hit another vehicle in the left lane, causing both to lose control and spin into the median between the north and southbound lanes of I-65, Huls said.

The pickup truck rolled over and stopped in the southbound fast lane, while the other vehicle "came to a stop resting on top of the center guardrail barrier," Huls said.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to University of Louisville Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. However the passenger, Gloria Jean Jones, 70, of Indianapolis, was ejected during the crash and died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Several southbound and northbound lanes of I-65 were closed for several hours, reopening around 8:30 p.m., according to Huls.
