LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Clerk's Office is warning residents about a scam phone call asking for a person's social security number.
Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw said someone has been calling residents pretending to be from the clerk's office.Â
The caller tells people they have past due or owe back taxes, then try to get the person to give up sensitive information.
Holsclaw said the clerk's office would never call about taxes, refuse to identify themselves, or ask for private information.
She said people can sign up for ClerkAlert, which is a free service that tells people when a legal document with your name is recorded in the clerk's office.

Those with questions can call the clerk's office at (502) 574-5700.
