LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville attorney known as "The Hammer" is back at work after an accident that nearly killed him.

WDRB News talked exclusively to Darryl Isaacs as he got back to work Monday -- the Louisville attorney who made a name for himself by representing accident victims.

"Today is my first day back at work," said Attorney Darryl Isaacs on Monday.

It has been a long journey for Isaacs. In January, He was hit from behind by a driver while riding his bicycle on River Road.

"I remember being hit," Isaacs said. "You know, I knew right away that I was hurt pretty bad."

The accident left Isaacs with a broken neck and some serious head injuries.

"The common theme is that I am lucky to be alive and I'm lucky that I can use my extremities and that I am walking and that I did not have brain damage," explained Isaacs.

Isaacs is known to television audiences as "The Hammer" or "The Heavy Hitter." He has represented thousands of people who have been injured in accidents. That's why people are asking what's in store for the driver who hit The Hammer and will there be a lawsuit?

"I know everybody wants to know 'are you going to bring a lawsuit'? I don't know what we're going to do, I am just trying to take it one day at a time and see how it goes," Isaacs explained.

Fifty pounds lighter and wearing a neck brace, Isaacs returned to work on Monday for the first time since the accident, but says his focus is still on making a full recovery and not any future litigation.

"I am following the same advice we always give our clients," he said. "First thing you want to do is do everything you can to get well and get better and that's what I'm trying to do."

You could say the commercials have made Isaacs somewhat of a local celebrity, which would explain the outpouring of support he has received during his recovery.

"The calls we have gotten and I've gotten cards from people that we don't even know that were praying for use and rooting for us so the public has been amazing," said Isaacs.

Right now, Isaacs is just working a few hours a day. He doesn't know when he will return to work full-time.
