LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Military Kids Day at the Kentucky capitol is coming up.

Each year, lawmakers invite military families to the state capitol for Military Kids Day.

It's a day to celebrate the resilience, sacrifice and contributions of military families and their kids. It also serves as an opportunity for military families and kids to connect with others "who understand the unique journey of military life."

"My dad was a military policeman for 22 years, so I grew up in the military. While it brought unique challenges that shaped my resilience, it also gave me opportunities and perspectives other kids didn't experience," Sen. Matt Deneen, R-Elizabethtown, said in a news release. "With Fort Knox in my district, I'm incredibly proud to celebrate the sacrifices and contributions of military children."

Some of the opportunities available for Military Kids Day include exploring a Black Hawk helicopter, flight simulations, a scavenger hunt, a tour of the capitol, and a chance to see a day in the life as a lawmaker.

Military Kids Day is Tuesday, Feb. 25. The last day for families to register for the event is Monday, Feb. 17.
