LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Flags will be flown at half-staff Saturday in honor of a Kentucky solider killed during World War II.
U.S. Army Private J.C. Brooks, of Rockfield, Kentucky, will be laid to rest at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens in Cecilia, Kentucky.
Brooks was a member of Company 1, 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division.
He was killed on Aug. 1, 1943, while leading an advance against German forces as first scout during Battle of Troina.
The American Legion will host a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Saturday at the organization's hall on Ridge Road in Elizabethtown.
