LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Kentucky State Police arrested a man who they say stole a diamond ring from a jewelry store.

Clarence Dwayne Richie was arrested by authorities Monday afternoon in the 5000 block of Stephan Drive, after he allegedly stole a diamond ring worth $7,000 from the Kay Jewelers store located at 5000 Shelbyville Rd. on April 19, according to police records.

Police state that Richie asked a store employee if he could look at a ring. When the employee showed the ring to Richie, police say he fled from the store without paying for the ring.

Employees with the Kay Jewelers store notified authorities and other jewelry stores in the area about the theft. Store employees were then informed that Richie had allegedly gone into other stores and requested to see the "most expensive" ring in each of them. Employees at those stores would not allow Richie to hold the rings, and he then left.

An employee at Kay Jewelers, as well as employees at other jewelry stores, were able to positively identify Richie.

Richie is charged with theft and is being held on a $20,000 cash bond.
