LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Louisville Metro Police Department is cracking down on street racing in the city.
Police said in a post on social media Wednesday afternoon their 5th Division patrol officers recently seized three vehicles street racing along the Bardstown Road corridor.
Officers also arrested three drivers:
- 19-year-old Thaddaeus D. Taylor, charged with resisting arrest and failure to maintain required insurance
- 22-year-old Wilson Aguilar, charged with reckless driving and operating on a suspended or revoked license
- Unnamed third driver, cited for reckless driving and fleeing
Street racing on public roads is illegal statewide, but Louisville's city ordinance includes stricter policies.
The ordinance allows for a $1,000 fine and vehicle impoundment for up to six months on a first offense. Repeat violations can bring higher fines up to $2,000 with longer impoundment periods.
House Bill 425 would have expanded policies like Louisville's ordinance statewide, but it did not pass before the 2026 legislative session ended.
