KFC "reorganization" leads to unspecified job cuts

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- KFC is cutting jobs.

According to a written statement from Karen Sherman, a spokeswoman for the fast-food chicken giant, the decision is being billed as a "reorganization."

"We made the difficult but necessary decision to reorganize KFC to maximize efficiencies and better reflect our current business needs," Sherman wrote. "While we have increased investment in some functions, we also have eliminated other positions at our corporate offices and in the field."

KFC representatives on Friday declined to provide specifics as to the number of jobs cut, or the positions that were affected.

"We are fully committed to dramatically improving our business performance and our guests' experience," Sherman added. "We are doing everything possible to help support those affected by the reorganization in their transition."

KFC is part of Louisville-based Yum! Brands, which is also the corporate parent of Taco Bell and Pizza Hut.

Yum! has 659 fulltime employees at its corporate headquarters on Gardiner Lane and another 650 performing back-office functions like payroll processing in the Commerce Crossings business park off Preston Highway, according to 2012 figures from a database maintained by the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development.
