LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Hundreds of thousands of dollars will help keep Kentuckiana children safe and healthy.

Kosair for Kids gave out more than $400,000 to 12 organizations on Thursday. Some of them included the Academy of Music Production Education, Catholic Charities of Louisville, and the Kentucky Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranch.

"Those organizations have had an opportunity to work with children, provide food for children, provide shelter for children, as well as spaces for them to grow and develop, whether it be on a playground, whether it be in a literacy program, all across the community," Bob Bonsutto, Kosair for Kids Advisory Council Chairman said. "So there's different aspects that we're able to use to grow and develop our kids in the community."

Each group impacts kids in different ways, like providing food, shelter or literacy programs.

"Today is a very big day, not just for Kosair, not just for the organizations that are here, but for the entire city of Louisville," James Linton, president and founder of the Community Connections Group, said. "Because of the funding that they donate today, we're able to reach grassroots organizations, grassroots people and just make a difference."

Kosair for Kids has awarded grants to different organizations for more than a decade.
