LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kosair for Kids donated $1 million to Heuser Hearing Institute to help expand outreach throughout Kentucky.

Friday's announcement came at the end of the Heuser Hearing Institute's Butterflies in Motion luncheon at the Brown Hotel. The money will help fund Heuser Hearing's mobile clinic and provide the latest treatment options to thousands of families.

Kosair for Kids CEO Barry Dunn said the grant gives nearly 11,000 children a better chance at overcoming auditory hurdles.

"Children who are deaf or hard of hearing are 25% more likely to experience neglect or abuse as children," Dunn said. "So today's gift is a down payment on curbing that epidemic in Kentucky and making sure all kids can grow up safe and that all kids can grow up healthy and that all kids can experience sound."

Each dollar will help bridge the health care gap in underserved, rural counties, too.
