LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Not even a thunderstorm could quiet the crowd on the last day of Louder Than Life, as fans poured back in after a brief weather delay on Sunday.
The festival was evacuated to Freedom Hall and nearby shelters at 11:11 a.m. due to rain, but the gates reopened after about an hour.
“This is the festival to be at,” said Reese Osborne, who performed at the festival and stuck around to enjoy the other bands.
Organizers said the festival draws more than 200,000 fans from across the country and around the world. Together with Bourbon & Beyond, the two festivals have established Louisville as a stop for some of the biggest music events in the nation.
“I've never seen anything like it. I've been to Bonnaroo, I've been to massive festivals, and this is, like, over the top," said one festivalgoer, Annaelise, who attended Louder Than Life for the third time this year.
Derek Lyons, a Louisville native, said he and his wife have made the festival an annual trip since 2015. He said changes this year, like the larger layout, more shade, a second entrance, new VIP platforms and an indoor merchandise space, helped improve the fan experience.
“If you want to look at last year compared to this year, the size, the magnitude, this is absolutely insane. Danny Wimmer Presents nailed it,” Lyons said.
The weather was cooperative instead of the rain and lightning Sunday afternoon prompted fans to take shelter inside the Kentucky Exposition Center for about an hour.
“It was a little wet, but my wife, daughter and I waited most of it out in the truck,” Lyons said.
Most festival goers didn't think much about the weather delay.Â
“Of course, it got a little bit delayed, but it didn't change anything. They handled that perfectly,” Annaelise said.
Bourbon and Beyond and Louder Than Life will return in 2026.
