LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- No injuries were reported after a large fire in a commercial building in Louisville's Smoketown neighborhood late Tuesday night.Ā

It happened around 11 p.m. in the 900 block of St. Paul Court, near E. Kentucky Street, according to a news release from the Louisville Fire Department. That's when LFD crews spotted smoke coming from a building with flames showing through the roof.Ā

"Just after 11 o'clock this evening, p.m., we actually had an LFD crew that noticed there was smoke in the area here in the 900 block of St. Paul Court, said Louisville Fire Capt. Donovan Sims. "They investigated and arrived on scene and noticed they had a 1-story commercial structure heavily involved in fire and put out a box response immediately."

Because of the intensity of the flames, crews did not enter the building, but assumed a defensive position and used aerial streams to fight the blaze. Extra equipment was also brought in, Donovan said, and "within a few minutes the building started to collapse on itself, which allowed us to really just dump as much water as possible on there."

It took 35 firefighters approximately 40 minutes to gain control of the fire, Donovan said. He did not know what the building was used for, but said the owner was at the scene Tuesday night.Ā

No injuries were reported at the scene. Louisville Arson will investigate to determine the cause.Ā
