LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville's SummerWorks program is once again helping connect the city's youth with career opportunities.
As part of the program, companies hire teenagers and young adults as summer employees. On Friday, several gathered to celebrate this SummerWorks season at the KMAC Contemporary Art Museum.
SummerWorks is a way to explore careers, get real job experience and develop professional references.
"There's strong evidence that when young people are involved in SummerWorks programs, they perform better in school, they're less likely to be engaged in activities that we don't want them to be engaged in and they gain valuable personal confidence that helps them launch successfully into adulthood," YouthBuild Louisville President and CEO Lynn Rippy said.
SummerWorks aims to help Louisville youth connect to not just employment and also economic opportunity and lifelong career success.
