ACTIVE THREAT TRAINING

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Government workers took part in firearms simulator training in downtown Louisville Tuesday.

Jefferson County judges, staff and Office of Circuit Court Clerk personnel participated in the training at the judicial center and Hall of Justice to learn how civilians can respond to threats like active shooters in government buildings.

The Administrative Office of the Courts Division of Court Security provided the training.

"We are trying to get our folks, especially at our justice centers, to be more vigilant and aware of their surroundings," said Jason Kirk, Court Security Coordinator Lead with the Administrative Office of the Courts. "A lot of this is about de-escalation skills, and that's very important, but we're also getting their mind thinking about what would I do."

Participants used the virtual firearms simulator to make split-second decisions in a variety of scenarios.

Across the river, Clarksville Police will be conducting similar training exercises at Clarksville High School on Tuesday and Wednesday.
