LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Several groups across the Louisville area came together to support Toys for Tots.
Representatives from Metro United Way, local unions, Academy Sports, and Town and Country Ford gathered Friday morning to present the charity with a $2,000 check just in time for the holiday season.
The Brain Injury Alliance also donated 400 bike helmets.
"This is what labor looks like. This is what labor does in the community," said Louisville Fire Chief Brian O'Neal. "It's more than just what happens day-to-day on the factories, in the fire department, in the police department, it's giving back and taking care of others."
The Toys for Tots coordinator said the organization helped 16,000 children last year. It's also seen an increase in people asking for help.
There will be Toys for Tots drop-off boxes set up at this year's Light Up Louisville, in Jefferson Square Park downtown, on Saturday, Dec. 2.
