Louisville man cleared of murder facing new charges

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man who served 14 years behind bars for a murder he didn't commit finds himself behind bars again.

Instead of celebrating his recent release from prison, in May of this year Kerry Porter told WDRB News that his life was actually starting to take a turn for the worse.

Porter said,"And somewhat bitter anger issues try to flair up from time to time and snap on other people sometimes."

According to a Metro Police citation, Porter snapped on his girlfriend this week. It says he strangled her and then put an unloaded gun under her chin and pulled the trigger several times.

Attorney Melanie Stratton helped Porter get his freedom after serving 14 years for a murder he didn't commit. She says she never expected him to be perfect. "I am very sad; I'm sad for Kerry and I'm sad for his family that he has to deal with this additional problem in his life. I mean, I think it's unfortunate. It's expected that there will be bumps in the road and I think this one is just unfortunately a larger one than we would hope for."

According to the police citation, Porter said:"I can get away with this." Whether that's true or not Stratton says Porter's latest troubles are unrelated to his recent release from prison.

"I worked Kerry's case for 6 years, I think that that would be a stretch at best."

Meanwhile, in May Porter hinted at what might be the root cause of some of his anger. He said "I can't find any work really. Ah, my mental is kind of messed up pretty bad as a result of the incarceration."

Porter is being held on a 15-thousand dollar bond at Metro Corrections.
