LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Louisville Metro Police Department has some new officers on the force.

Friday, Mayor Craig Greenberg and LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel gave the oath of office and welcomed 20 new officers to the department.

The officers have all completed several months of intensive training. With this new class of 20 new officers, that brings the total number of sworn officers to 1,046.

The mayor and chief told the new officers that public safety is a top priority and requires a team effort.

"Public safety is everyone's job — businesses, schools, nonprofits, houses of worship, neighborhood associations, parents — all of us have responsibility," Greenberg said.

"You will and you are today making a difference," said Gwinn-Villaroel. "We applaud you. Congratulations, and I look forward to working with each and every one of you."

The graduation was held at Valley High School on Dixie Highway.
