LOUISVILLE, Ky, (WDRB) -- John Stevenson said he did everything he could to avoid the impact, even trying to jump off his motorcycle just before the car hit him. It happened at the intersection of 29th and Madison streets on a warm September night.

"It hit me and kept going," Stevenson said.

Video from the crash, given to Stevenson by Louisville Metro Police, shows the crash and the moments after. Stevenson's motorcycle was stopped at a stop sign, waiting to turn right, when the car came straight toward him.

"I was right in the corner about to make my turn," he said. "The car kept coming and just ran me over."

The force of the crash threw Stevenson off the bike and to the side of the road. He said that quick reaction likely saved his life.

"Thank God I got the reflexes I got, (but it) still could've killed me," Stevenson said. "I had to push myself off the bike when it hit me."

There was no visible bleeding, but he was hurt. Stevenson managed to call 911 and then his wife.

"I said 'I can move a little bit,'" Stevenson said. "She was like 'Do you need to go to the hospital?' I said 'I don't know.' I was just scared and sick. The next day, I said, you know what, I better go."

At the hospital, doctors took X-rays and confirmed his injuries.

"My neck is messed up, and my leg is messed up," he said. "This leg right here is messed up."

The LMPD video shows the suspect's car clearly — until you try to read the license plate. Stevenson and his wife were only able to get a partial plate number.

"We ran to a car we think it was," he said. "It had the same color markings from my bike on it."

Stevenson's motorcycle is insured and now sitting in a repair shop but he said that's not enough. He wants the driver found, cited and forced to answer for leaving him injured in the street.

"I just want them caught," he said.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or driver is asked to contact LMPD.
