JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Cluckers restaurant in Jeffersonville was destroyed in a fire in the early morning hours of Dec. 30.Â
According to Jeffersonville Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike McCutcheon, the first call came in just before 1:30 a.m. The initial call was for a trash fire, but firefighters arrived to find the fire had spread, and the restaurant was engulfed in flames.Â
The call came in around 1:30 a.m. for a trash fire that was eventually upgraded to a structure fire.
The fire caused the building to collapse. Firefighters were still working on hot spots nearly 12 hours later.Â
McCutcheon said powerful wind gusts and subfreezing temperatures made it difficult to battle the blaze, as water froze and formed icicles almost immediately. He also said Cluckers' owner was supposed to leave for the Rose Bowl on Tuesday. Â
A Facebook post on the restaurant's account thanked firefighters for their efforts and asked for the public's thoughts, prayers and continued support as they begin the process of recovery.Â
No one was hurt and nearby buildings were not affected.
The cause of the fire wasn't immediately determined. Sgt. Justin Ames with the Jeffersonville Fire Department said they don't believe the fire was set intentionally, but the investigation is ongoing.Â
