LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A 12-year-old southern Indiana boy was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Saturday on Interstate 65 in Jackson County.

Jackson County Sheriff's Department said the crash happened Saturday about 5:20 p.m. on I-65 south near the 51-mile marker, just north of the Seymour exit.

Police said four vehicles were involved in the crash — a Chevrolet Impala, a Mini Cooper, a semi truck and Dodge truck towing a fifth-wheel camper.

Four people, including the boy were in the Impala. The 12-year-old boy, from New Albany, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupants, all adults, were airlifted to area hospitals.

Two occupants of the Mini Cooper, a 16-year-old and 50-year-old, were taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for treatment of minor injuries, police said in a release.

The driver of the semi, an adult man, and the driver of the Dodge truck, an adult woman, weren't injured.

All lanes in both directions were closed at one point to allow medical helicopters to land and reopened around 9 p.m.

Indiana State Police crash reconstructionists are investigating.
