LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More parks in Louisville will be set up with free Wi-Fi.

The city of Louisville continues to work on installing high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the public park system. In the last six months, 12,000 people have used the free internet at 17 Louisville parks.

"If you don't have the internet or a device to access the internet, it's almost like you don't have access to the rest of the world," Louisville Metro Councilman Jecorey Arthur (I-4) said. "We're helping address that issue."

City officials said Alberta O. Jones Park in the California neighborhood has the highest usage. The California Community Center also got upgrades to its computer lab with new 3D printers and virtual reality headsets.

"Every person in Louisville deserves access to digital resources and that's what we're working to provide here to do as work to make our city safer, stronger and healthier," Mayor Craig Greenberg said.

The city plans to install free Wi-Fi in 25 more Louisville parks before the end of the year.
