LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new addition to Louisville's California neighborhood will be welcoming families for generations to come.
The first phase of Alberta O. Jones Park opened Saturday. It's named after the pioneering Louisville attorney and civil rights champion.
There is even a mosaic of her portrait comprised of hundreds of individual photographs celebrating the California community.
With the help of the Parks Alliance of Louisville, nearly seven acres of vacant property has been transformed into a public greenspace. Jones' sister said her family would have been touched by the dedication.
"My dad, my mom and my two brothers was smiling cause they were happy that this day ha come about," Flora Shanklin, Jones' sister, said.
Jones Park is also the first park in Louisville to have complimentary high-speed wifi.
