LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville Metro Police detective known for her work helping child victims of abuse died after a battle with stomach cancer.
Michelle Rusch served with LMPD for more than 10 years as a member of the Crimes Against Children Unit.
According to Louisville Metro Police Foundation, Rusch was recognized by the Children's Advocacy Centers of Kentucky as as Legendary Partner of 2025. That honor was presented by Kentucky attorney general Russell Coleman.
"In her final days, Michelle said she had two wishes, that she be remembered for all the good work she had done with the LMPD and that her family would be taken care of," the Louisville Metro Police Foundation posted. "We are asking for your help to make her wishes come true, to honor her legacy and support the family she loved so much."
The foundation is encouraging people to donate to cover the cost of Rusch's burial and other expenses, and 100% of donations go to the family.

A visitation will be held Sunday for Rusch at Ratterman Funeral Home at 12900 Shelbyville Road. The visitation will be open to the public from noon to 8 p.m., followed by an FOP service.
There will be a funeral service Monday at Southeast Christian Church at 920 Blankenbaker Parkway. The visitation is schedule from 9-11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.
